Rapport Sgt Sandulak: - (I was a member of the crew of a Lancaster Mark 10 aircraft which left MIDDLETON ST. GEORGE at 2130 hrs on 24 Jul 44. I baled out South-west of OUZOUER (FRANCE 1:250,000, Sheet 15, W 3643) near the FORET DE MARCHENOIR (F31) at 0015 hrs on 25 Jul 24. I think I must have been unconscious when I hit the ground. When I came to, the aircraft was burning about half a mile away and I heard voices, so I dared not try to move. I rolled up my parachute harness and mae west and concealed then in the field where I had landed. I remained hidden there until 1100 hrs that day when I contacted some workers working in the field. I had seen a parachute in the field some distance from me. My helpers took me to a farm, where the famer gave me a meal and civilian clothes and kept me. From there my journey was arranged for me. APPENDIX C - Whilst I was at the farm near OUZOUER (FRANCE, 1:250,000, Sheet 15, W3643) on 26 Jul 44 the chief of the local Maquis visited me and took me to the Maquis camp in the FORÊT DE MARCHENOIR (F31), 3 to 4 kms. from the village of MARCHENOIR (F 2915). There I met F/Sgt. S. S. DUNSEITH, R.C.A.F, who was badly burned about the face. He was a member of the crew of the aircraft which I had seen burning near me after I had baled out from my own aircraft, and I believe that the parachute I saw in the field was his. We remained at the Maquis camp from 26 Jul to 5 Aug 44, when we were taken by the Maquis chief to W/Cdr. LUCIEN's camp for evaders where we remained until 14 Aug 44. Je me suis éjecté au sud-ouest d'Ouzouer, près de la forêt de Marchenoir, à 0h15 le 25 juillet 1924. Je pense que j'étais inconscient à l'impact. À mon réveil, l'avion brûlait à environ 800 mètres et j'entendais des voix ; je n'ai donc pas osé bouger. J'ai enroulé mon harnais de parachute et je me suis dirigé vers l'ouest pour le dissimuler dans le champ où j'avais atterri. Je suis resté caché là jusqu'à 11h00 ce jour-là, heure à laquelle j'ai contacté des ouvriers qui travaillaient dans le champ. J'avais aperçu un parachute à une certaine distance. Mes compagnons m'ont conduit à une ferme où le fermier m'a offert un repas, des vêtements civils et m'a hébergé. De là, mon voyage a été organisé. APPENDIX C - Le 26 juillet 1944, alors que je me trouvais à la ferme près d'Ouzouer[le-Marché] (F15, ZNG Vw3643), le chef du maquis local est venu me voir et m'a emmené au campement du maquis dans la forêt de Marchenoir (F31), à 3 ou 4 km du village de MARCHENOIR (F15, FL2 Wf2915). J'y ai rencontré le Sgt/C Dunseith, RCAF, qui avait le visage gravement brûlé. Il faisait partie de l'équipage de l'avion que j'avais vu brûler près de moi après avoir sauté en parachute de mon propre appareil, et je crois que le parachute que j'ai aperçu dans le champ était le sien. Nous sommes restés au camp du Maquis du 26 juillet au 5 août 44, lorsque nous avons été emmenés par le chef du Maquis au camp du W/Cdr LUCIEN pour les évadés où nous sommes restés jusqu'au 14 août 44.
