Extrait du rapport du 1Lt Charles P Burch: On 25 March 1944 at about 1518 hours I was flying 6 B-26 Medium Bomber, no 41-31946, while returning from a mission in the Montdidier area in France./…/ Aboutthirty seconds after Lt Ryan's ship had received a direct hit from enemy flak, I observed that F/O Robert S Tate's ship, No 41-31798, flying opposite my left wing, had also been hit by enemy flak, apparently in the right engine nacelle. F/O Tate's ship then went into what appeared to be a controlled dive to the right and passed from sight. In both instances no parachutes were observed. Extrait du rapport du S/Sgt Lewis C Tebeau: /…/The ship had been hit by enemy flak, and after diving some distance it was enveloped in flames. The aircraft then exploded and it seemed to disintegrate in mid-air. After the explosion there was very little to follow, however, I did observe two pieces of silk to be floating in the air. No opened parachutes were observed.
