Rapport Sq/L Carpenter: - ( I took off from FORD in a Spitfire aircraft on 21 May 44 at 1120 hrs. I crash-landed at 1200 hrs near JUMIEGES (N.V. EUROPE, 1:250,000, Sheet 4, L9915). I was wounded in both legs and the right arm. I hid in a nearby wood and then walked North and called at a house where I was given food. I left the house and hid in a hedge until dusk, when I started walking North-east across country. At approximately 0300 hrs on 22 May I hid in a barn and at approximately 0900 hrs the farmer discovered me. He arranged for first aid treatment for me, and later that day a doctor was brought. He treated my wounds.
I remained in the barn until 24 May, when I was taken to another barn on the outskirts of DUCLAIR (M0321). I remained there until 27 May, when I was taken by lorry to a house in ROUEN. I stayed there until approximately 6 Jun, when I was taken in a horse wagon to a house in AUZOUVILLE-SUR-RY (M3513), where I stayed until 1 Sep. On that day I contacted the Canadian forces in AUZOUVILLE. J'y suis resté jusqu'au 6 juin environ, puis j'ai été transporté en chariot à chevaux jusqu'à une maison à Auzouville-sur-Ry (vM3513), où je suis resté jusqu'au 1er septembre. Ce jour-là, j'ai pris contact avec les forces canadiennes à Auzouville. J'ai été envoyé dans différents quartiers généraux, puis au Intelligence School 9 (Western European Area)I.S.9 (WEA), où j'ai été brièvement interrogé avant d'être rapatrié au Royaume-Uni par avion.
