Rapport (1Lt Gay Jr) - (We (yellow 1 and 2) pulled up after our second pass on the target and started a very shallow climbing turn to the left. Lt. Kitchens was apparently looking for other targets. I (yellow #2) was flying on his left wing. At about 2,000 feet I noticed Lt. Espy (yellow #3) come up on the right. He flew this position long enough form to notice the markings on his ship. Suddenly he banked his ship to the left and it looked as if he was going to cross-over under us. I saw he was going to run into Lt. Kitchens tail and was forced to pull up sharply to avoid the collision. I looked to the left and saw tracers flying thru the air. To the right I saw the tail section of Lt. Kitchens plane falling to the ground and the rest of th ship falling in a flat spin. The ship fell very fast and started burning about two (2) minutes after it hit the ground. I did not see any parachutes. Lt. Viccellio (yellow #4) came up; I flew on his wing. We circled after I called Major Moon about the crash. Nous (jaunes 1 et 2) avons remonté après notre deuxième passage sur la cible et avons entamé un virage en montée très faible vers la gauche. J'ai regardé vers la gauche et j'ai vu des balles traçantes voler dans les airs. À droite, j'ai vu la queue de l'avion du lieutenant Kitchens tomber au sol et le reste de l'appareil tomber en vrille. L'appareil est tombé très vite et a commencé à brûler environ deux (2) minutes après avoir touché le sol. Je n'ai vu aucun parachute. Le lieutenant Viccellio (jaune n° 4) est arrivé ; J'ai volé sur son aile. Nous avons tourné autour après que j'ai appelé le major Moon au sujet du crash. Nous avons observé la zone, mais je n'ai vu aucun parachute ni repéré le vaisseau du lieutenant Espy au sol.
Extrait Rapport (1Lt Viccellio) - (I looked around to clear the area behind and above. As I looked ahead again I saw pieces of airplanes flying about in the air. Apparently Lt Espy's plane had cut the tail off Lt. Kitchens plane while he was crossing under to outside of turn. After the collision Lt. Espy's plane seemed to be smoking considerably and both planes started to the ground. Lt Kitchens plane seemed to spin in, rather in a flat spin and crumpled up when it hit the ground. Lt Espy's plane went in a slow spiral and burst into flames upon contact with the ground. Both planes seemed to hit the ground in about 5 to 6 seconds after the accident. J'ai regardé autour de moi pour voir la zone derrière et au-dessus. En regardant à nouveau devant moi, j'ai vu des morceaux d'avions voler dans les airs. Apparemment, l'avion du lieutenant Espy avait sectionné la queue de l'avion du lieutenant Kitchens alors qu'il passait sous l'avion pour atteindre l'extérieur du virage. Après la collision, l'avion du lieutenant Espy semblait fumer considérablement et les deux avions ont commencé à s'écraser au sol. L'avion du lieutenant Kitchens a semblé tourner en vrille, plutôt à plat, et s'est écrasé en heurtant le sol. L'avion du lieutenant Espy a décrit une lente spirale et a pris feu au contact du sol. Les deux avions ont semblé toucher le sol environ 5 à 6 secondes après l'accident. J'ai observé d'aussi près que possible les deux avions au moment de leur collision et je n'ai vu ni le lieutenant Kitchens ni le lieutenant Espy sauter en parachute.
