He took evasive action and after the excitement found that he was lost in cloud. Calling up for a Homing he set course for base - which was some distance away - and as if that was not enough for one day, he was bounced by U.S.A. Thunderbolts. This caused him to take another set of aerial acrobatics, and after this was over he was lost again. By this time a homing was not much good to him - his petrol was running low, and he was forced to make a forced landing in a field at TORIGNY near St Lo.
