Extrait du rapport Missing, Research & Enquiry UnitMREU ( This aircraft crashed at approximately 02.30 hrs on the 29.10.44. at the village of WEYERSHEIM at a place called SEEWEIL after being shot down by a German Night fighter.
2. Two of the crew F/SGT McSTAY and F/SGT BARROWS were injured, the remainder of the crew being killed. They were all taken by the German troope to KRIEGSGEGANGENEN LAZARETT STRASBOURG KOENIGSHOFFEN.
3. The debris of the aircraft was impossible to identify as most of it had been taken by a German salvage Unit.
4. The five crew members killed were taken to the CRONENBOURG Military Cemetery at STRASBOURG and there interred in Plot L. British Section Row 2 Graves 8-12.

5. Exhumation of the unknowns in Graves 8 and 9 (See attached exhumation Reports) reveal that in Grave 8 there is an Australian
F/SGT Air Gunner. This would appear to be the body of AUS.35590 F/SGT SMITH S.A. the only unaccounted for Australian F/SGT.
6. In grave 9 were found scraps of R.A.F. Battle dress body badly decomposed. This remaining crew member would be 1807029 SGT NORTHCOTE. F.D.R.

Cet avion s'est écrasé vers 2 h 30 le 29 octobre 1944 près du village de Weyersheim, à un lieu-dit appelé Seeweil, après avoir été abattu par un chasseur de nuit allemand.
2. Deux membres d'équipage, les sergents-chefs McStay et Barrows, ont été blessés ; les autres ont péri. Ils ont tous été emmenés par les troupes allemandes au Lazaret de Kriegsgegangen de Strasbourg (Koenigshoffen).
3. Les débris de l'avion ont été impossibles à identifier, la plupart ayant été récupérés par une unité de récupération allemande.
4. Les cinq membres d'équipage décédés ont été inhumés au cimetière militaire de Cronenbourg, à Strasbourg, dans la parcelle L, section britannique, rangée 2, tombes 8 à 12.

5. L'exhumation des corps inconnus des tombes 8 et 9 (voir les rapports d'exhumation ci-joints) révèle la présence, dans la tombe 8, d'un sergent-chef australien mitrailleur. Il s'agirait du corps du sergent-chef AUS.35590 SMITH S.A., le seul sergent-chef australien porté disparu.
6. Dans la tombe 9, des fragments de l'uniforme de combat d'un membre de la RAF, en état de décomposition avancée, ont été découverts. Ce membre d'équipage serait le sergent 1807029 NORTHCOTE, F.D.R. 7. L'acceptation de ce qui précède semblerait clore ce dossier.
