Extrait du rapport du 1Lt Houser (source: Accident Report - AFHRA): […] At 4100' Red Leader seemed to level off and started a 4 or 5° bank to rhe right. After a couple of seconds he started turning back to the left to the left with about the same degree of bank. Then I saw two planes flying very close coming in from the right at about 45° angle. I would say that in the cloud I could see 60°. I had no sooner seen them than there was an awful crash. Debris and oil hit me in the face ans I was slightly stunned, I fumbled for the canopy release until I finally realized that all of the glass was out. I then struggled to get out and thought I was wedged in but I hadn't unfastened my safety belt. The engine and the left wing flew off. When I unfastened my safety belt and climbed up on the right side of the cockpit, I was thrown out. The plane had been in a flat spin for some time. I reached for the ripcord and noticed the plane right above me an was afraid it was going to fall on me if I pulled the ripcord. I looked at the ground and saw I had to pull as I was getting close to 500'. I pulled and the chute opened at once. When I was 100 or 150 feet from the ground one plane hit and exploded followed immediately by the other one. They hit about 50 yards apart and I drifted about a quarter of a mile from them hitting the ground fairly easy.
