Rapport d’accident: - (On 20 August 1944 at 1900 hours, airplane P-47D-5 number 42-8480, piloted by 2nd Lt. Clarence E. Moreland, was taking-off for an operational mission carrying 2 x 500 lbs G.P. bombs. The aircraft was about 1/2 of the way down the runway when the left wheel apparently locked, swinging the plane to the left. Pilot tried to correct the course of the aircraft by applying right brake but the plane continued to the left and ran off runway, striking an embankment and ending up crosswise to the runway.

Le 20 août 1944 à 19 h 00, l'avion P-47D-5 numéro 42-8480, piloté par le sous-lieutenant Clarence E. Moreland, décollait pour une mission opérationnelle, emportant deux bombes General Purpose (Emploi général)GP de 500 livres. L'appareil avait parcouru environ la moitié de la piste lorsque la roue gauche se bloqua, provoquant un virage à gauche. Le pilote tenta de corriger la trajectoire en freinant à droite, mais l'avion continua sa course vers la gauche, sortit de piste, heurta un talus et s'immobilisa en travers de la piste.
L'aile droite et le train d'atterrissage gauche furent complètement arrachés. L'avion fut par la suite déclaré épave.
