Photo du Darlin'Presh au sol sur www.americanairmuseum.com (Lien transmis par Claude Dannau) Extrait du rapport du pilote (source Accident Report-AFHRA): On Novembre 5th 1944, I was on a local cross-country flight from Nancy to Dijon, and return. When I was about ten minutes out of Dijon, on the return trip, my engine began cutting out and running very rough. The engine gauges (fuel, oil & coolant) all read normal. I did a 180° back for Dijon field, and made a "straight in" approach from the north. There was no radio in Dijon tower, so I did'nt have radio contact. As I neared the runway I saw three (3) Spitfire taxiing north, (on the runway). By that time my engine had quit cold; so I snatched up my wheels, left full flaps down - and belly-landed on the grass (west side of runway). The wheels were only half way up when I touched the ground, but collapsed on impact. The plane hit a box, and ripped the bottom and one side of the plane pretty bad. |
