Photo du 41-34981 accidenté ICI Extrait du rapport du pilote (Source: Accident Report - AFHRA): I was scheduled in Airplane n° 41-31981 to stand by as spare on the mission of 30 November 1944. The airplanes in general and the tires in particular were given a through pre-flight inspection and found to be in good order. I taxied out, and became of the confusion caused by another flat tire on another airplane, I was orderer by the tower to take off and fill in any vacancy in the formation. I took off and followed the formation on course for 25 miles. Finding the formation complète, I asked for a heading back to the field. After getting permission from the tower to enter the traffic pattern, I made a normal approach. Upon touching, or just after touching the runway, the ship started veering to the right and left the runway about 100 feet after touchdown due to the right tire being flat. I applied left brake which was effective momentarily. At approximately three hundred (300) yards from the point of contact with the runway, the right gear dug in, throwing the ship to the right and into a skid, causing the collapse of both gears ans completely washing out the aircraft.[...] |
