While watching the ship ahead it turned from base leg onto approach. The ship appeared to stall and drop somewhat like a failling leaf. About 200 feet above the ground the plane did a complete roll and crashed. It exploded upon impact. (Le 6 septembre 1944, à notre retour de mission, nous étions "peel-off" sur le terrain pour un atterrissage. Tout en observant l'avion, il a tourné de la base à l’approche. L'avion semblait caler et tomber quelque peu comme une feuille. À environ 200 pieds au-dessus du sol, l'avion a effectué un tonneau complet et s'est écrasé. Il a explosé à l'impact.) |
