Traduction rapport d’enquête - (Aircraft 228 was the lead plane in a flight of 4 aircraft. Aircraft 044 was the fly number four position, slightly below and behind number 228. Conditions necessitated instrument ascent and forming on top of the clouds (above 3000 ft). It was during this join-up procedure that this accident occured. 228 as flight lead was to fly at 185 mph on a east-west course (from a westerly heading to an easterly heading) when the accident occured. As 044 could not locate the flight leader he followed 903 who was to be in the same fomation. Both 903 and 044 were overtaking 228... the pilot of 044 apparently did not see 228 but see 903 lower his wheels (in an attemps to slow his aircraft up and join formation) and this might have attracted his attention, as it is an unusual occurence. 228 was in a turn to the left, as was 044, when the impact occured. Speed of 044 was greater than that of 228 and the right prop apparently knocked off the vertical stabilizer of 228 and continued chewing into the airplane. It is probable that the pilot of 044 had never seen 228 below him. At least the fact that his airplane was banked to the left would indicate that it is improbable he could see 228 at the time of impact. L'avion 044 était en quatrième position, légèrement en-dessous et derrière le numéro 228. Les conditions nécessitaient une remontée et une formation des instruments au-dessus des nuages (au-dessus de 3000 ft). C'est au cours de cette procédure de jonction que cet accident s'est produit. 228 alors chef de vol devait voler à 185 mph sur une route est-ouest (d'un cap ouest à un cap est) lorsque l'accident s'est produit. Comme 044 n'a pas pu localiser le chef de vol, il a suivi le 903 qui devait être dans la même formation. 903 et 044 dépassaient tous les deux 228 ... le pilote de 044 n'a apparemment pas vu 228 mais voit 903 abaisser ses roues (dans une tentative de ralentir son avion et rejoindre la formation) et cela aurait pu attirer son attention, car il s'agit d'une procédure inhabituelle. 228 était dans un virage à gauche, tout comme 044, lorsque l'impact s'est produit. La vitesse de 044 était supérieure à celle de 228 et l'hélice droite a apparemment fait tomber le stabilisateur vertical de 228 et a continué à mâcher l'avion. Il est probable que le pilote du 044 n'avait jamais vu 228 en-dessous de lui. Au moins le fait que son avion était incliné vers la gauche indiquerait qu'il est improbable qu'il puisse voir 228 au moment de l'impact.
