Photo du Lt Ray R Evans sur www.worldwarphotos.info (Lien transmis par Claude Dannau) Extrait du rapport du pilote (source Accident Report- AFHRA): [...] As I was about to pull plane off the ground I noticed a liquide blowing through the seams of the right engine cowling. The airspeed was 120 mph and wheels were coming up. I feathered the right prop and cut the right mixture. There was a loud jolt before props feathered and fire burst from the engine. At the same time smoke poured into the cockpit. I jettisoned the canopy and locked shoulder straps. I could see nothing due to the smoke. The plane hit the ground and I climbed out and cleared the wreckage as quickly as possible. |
