Extrait du rapport du Major Rodgers (source Accident Report - AFHRA): Captain Wilk while taking off on a Operational Mission, flying P-38J-10-LO 42-68180, experienced left engine trouble shortly after becoming airborne. He then landed the plane and cut the engines. However he had a great deal of speed and was unable to stop the aircraft before running off into the dirt. The terrain at the end of the runway was rough and fairly soft. His nose gear collapsed and the nose of the gondola struck the ground and the aircraft turned over on its back. The airplane was a complete washout but the pilote was uninjured except for a broken finger on his left hand. Photo du 42-68180 accidenté ICI |
