Rapport du Capt George W Hunt Jr - MACR 15828: I was leading Gatepost Squadron on an armed Reconnaissance on 2 August 1944. After strafing one convoy we continued on course and sighted a second. At the altitude it looked like tanks so I ordered a bombing attack by elements. I took my element in and Lt Kern, leading my second element made a strafing run the length of the convoy and dropped his bombs at the same time. He went too low and the bomb blast threw him on his back. He partially recoveres and then went in, exploding and burning on impact. His wingman, sensing danger, stayed above him and was not affected.
