Conscript-Heroes : On the night of 18/19 November, 77 Sqn Halifax JD247 crashed at Moy-de-l'Aisne (about 11 kms north of Tergnier) on the return leg of a raid on Mannheim. Two crewmen were killed and three taken POW. Sgt John Harvey (1729) was found at the home of the chief of the Mezieres train station (station master - query) by Jean Bruxelles and Dromas. Sgt Norman B Cufley (1728) was found at the home of the local butcher. Both men were placed with Jean Bruxelles at Flavy where they remained until 30 November when they left for the centre for repatriation at Creil with John Lowther (see above). Both RAF men were back in England by the end of January 1944 courtesy of Operation Bonaparte 1, the first Shelburn evacuation.
