Ingledew, Jr., ASN 0-755950, was flying number 3 in Red Flight. At approximately 1100 hours, 14 August 1944, Lt Ingledew called in a truck on a highway in the vicinity of Falaise. He said it had disappeared in the bushes along the road and he thought he had the spot marked. I was flying number 4 and went down with him. At approximately 200 to 400 feet above the ground Lt Ingledew suddenly pushed the nose of his airplane down sharply and went into the ground and exploded. Il a indiqué que le véhicule avait disparu dans les buissons bordant la route et qu'il pensait avoir repéré l'endroit. Je volais en n° 4 et je suis descendu avec lui. Alors qu'il se trouvait entre 200 et 400 pieds au-dessus du sol, le Lt Ingledew a soudainement piqué brusquement du nez ; son avion s'est écrasé au sol et a explosé. Je ne vois pas comment il aurait pu survivre à un tel accident. Aucun tir de DCA n'a été observé. |
