www.station131.co.uk Extrait du rapport d'enquête (Source: Accident Report - AFHRA): On 17th November 1944, 1st Lt Russell W Erb took off on an operational mission whith his Squadron. At an altitude of approxiamtely 1500 ft, shortly after take-off the underpart of Lt Erb's aircraft was noted by a fellow pilot to be red hot. As the fellow pilot called a warning, Lt Erb's aircraft burst into flames and went into a spin. The pilot partially recovered but recovery could not be effected in time to prevent the crash. The pilot was killed instantly as the airplane exploded upon impact. The accident was caused by materiel failure. Due to the fact the aircraft was completely destroyed the nature of materiel failure cannot be determined. ) |
