He aborted and left Lt Fields as Red Leader. We circled a field at Chartres, and he said he was going down. His plane was badly hit as he srafed and it started burning. The engine Froze and he bellied in the aircraft north of the field. He was unhurt and I saw him running away from his plane towards some woods. This was at 1530 hours.
