Extrait de l’ORB 27-164-7 - ( : "The operations order called for three aircraft to bomb the woods S.E. of Evreux which were carrying large columns of M.T. vehicles, also there was an aerodrome one mile S.E. Le Coudray, reported to be in use by the enemy, which was to bombed. Owing the bad weather conditions, Sergt Preston was unable to locate the target, and so he returned without dropping bombs. P/O Blowfield and Sergt Wilcox failed to return.
Subsequently, Sergt Batty, Observer to P/O Blowfield, returned to the Squadron in England, and reported that aircraft was shot down by enemy fighters. LAC Grant the Air Gunner was killed in the air, but P/O Blowfield was eventually killed by enemy tanks on making his way with Sergt Batty to friendly territory."Original)- source : National Archives UK.
" L'ordre d'opération prévoyait trois avions pour bombarder les bois S-E d'Evreux où il y avait de grosses colonnes de véhicules motorisés, il y avait aussi un aérodrome à un mile au S.E. Le Coudray, signalé comme étant utilisé par l'ennemi, qui devait être bombardé. En raison des mauvaises conditions météorologiques, le sergent Preston n'a pas pu localiser la cible et il est donc revenu sans larguer de bombes. Le P/O Blowfield et le Sergt Wilcox ne sont pas revenus.
Par la suite, le Sergt Batty, observateur du P/O Blowfield, est retourné à l'escadron en Angleterre et a signalé que l'avion avait été abattu par des chasseurs ennemis. LAC Grant the Air Gunner a été tué en l'air, mais le P/O Blowfield a finalement été tué par des chars ennemis alors qu'il se dirigeait avec le sergent Batty vers le territoire ami."
