Rapport E&E du F/Sgt Jennings – (We took off from Witchford at 2145 hrs on 8 Aug 44. On the return flight our aircraft collided with another from the same flight. I baled out, landing near the crashed aircraft in the vicinity of Grand Rullecourt (N 2598). I hid in a field during the night, and on 9 Aug I was found by a farmer. The farmer contacted the F.F.I., who gave us civilian clothes and took me to Estree (N 2199), where I met Sgt Maples and Sgt Brooks from my crew. We remained here until 24 Aug, when we were taken to Saulty (N 2992). Lors du vol de retour, notre avion est entré en collision avec un autre du même vol. J'ai sauté en parachute, atterrissant près de l'avion accidenté dans les environs de Grand Rullecourt (N 2598). Je me suis caché dans un champ pendant la nuit et le 9 août, j'ai été retrouvé par un fermier. Le fermier a contacté un Forces Françaises de l'IntérieurF.F.I. qui nous a donné des vêtements civils et m'a emmené à Estrée-Wamin (N 2199), où j'ai rencontré le Sgt Maples et le Sgt Brooks de mon équipage. Nous sommes restés ici jusqu'au 24 août, date à laquelle nous avons été emmenés à Saulty ( N 2992). Nous sommes restés ici, vivant dans une maison, jusqu'à l'arrivée des troupes britanniques le 1er septembre. When the farmer found us, he took us in and gave us food. The following morning (10 Aug) he informed a local official, and we were taken to the village of Estree (N 2199). We stayed here until 24 Aug. While at Estree we met Sgt Jennings (our navigator) and two Russian escapers. Nous nous sommes cachés dans une ferme jusqu'au soir. Lorsque le fermier nous a trouvés, il nous a accueillis et nous a donné de la nourriture. Le lendemain matin (10 août), il a informé un fonctionnaire local et nous avons été emmenés au village d'Estrée-Wamin (N 2199). Nous sommes restés ici jusqu'au 24 août. À Estrée, nous avons rencontré le Sgt Jennings (notre navigateur) et deux évadés russes. Le 24 août, nous avons déménagé à Saulty (N 2992) et y sommes restés jusqu'à l'arrivée des troupes britanniques le 1er septembre. I baled out and landing about half a mile South of Avesnes (N 2999). I sprained my ankle on landing and was obliged to lie hidden in a field. During the day I was found by a farmer, who brought me some food. At dusk I was taken to a nearby farm and given civilian clothes. Next day (10 Aug) I was taken to a house in Avesnes, where I remained until 12 Aug. On that date I was taken to another farm in the vicinity of Liencourt (N 2499), about 8 km from Avesnes. I remained here until 31 Aug, when I returned to another house in Avesnes. Je suis resté ici jusqu'au 31 août, date à laquelle je suis retourné dans une autre maison d'Avesnes. Le 6 septembre, un F.F.I. m'a emmené à Doullens (N 1586) et de là je suis allé à Amiens et je suis parti pour l'Angleterre le même jour. I baled out and landed approx. 2 km from St-Léger (N 5387) and met my mid-upper gunner Sgt Maples (S/P.G. 2276). I hid my parachute and mae west in a ditch and then we made our way to the village and hid in a barn. On the afternoon of 9 Aug the farmer came in and found us. He took us into the farm and gave us food and civilian clothes. The following dat the farmer contacted an official in the village who made arrangements for us to be taken to Estrees (N 8163), where we lived with the F.F.I. They gave us identity cards. We stayed at Estrees for two weeks until 24 Aug. We were taken to Sombrin (N 2795) where we lived on a farm until 6 Sep. The F.F.I. took me to Doullens (N 18) and there I contacted military authorities. Dans l'après-midi du 9 août, le fermier est entré et nous a trouvés. Il nous a emmenés dans la ferme et nous a donné de la nourriture et des vêtements civils. Le jour suivant, le fermier contacta un fonctionnaire du village qui s'arrangea pour que nous soyons conduits à Estrée-Wamin (N 8163), où nous vivions avec les F.F.I. Ils nous ont donné des cartes d'identité. Nous sommes restés à Estrée pendant deux semaines jusqu'au 24 août. Nous avons été conduits à Sombrin (N 2795) où nous avons vécu dans une ferme jusqu'au 6 septembre. Les F.F.I. m'ont emmené à Doullens (N 18) et là j'ai contacté les autorités militaires. J'ai été transporté par avion depuis Amiens et je suis arrivé au Royaume-Uni le 6 septembre.
